SCENE: About 6.30am. Ariel is looking at a book in bed and has spotted a picture of a baby in a crib.

HER: (Amazed) Babies don’t sleep on their own, do they, mummy?!
ME: (Asleep) Umm, eh, what?
HER: Babies don’t sleep on their own, they need their mummies by them.
ME: Oh, well. yes. Normally. Um. Maybe the baby’s mummy has just gone to do some jobs while it has a little nap. Or something.
HER: Oh.
ME: (Snuggles back under the covers)
HER: Is it the Jesus baby?
ME: Umm, eh, what?
HER: Is that the Jesus baby on there?
ME: I don’t think so.
HER: Why not?
ME: Um. It hasn’t got a lamb.
HER: Oh.
