I’ve just seen John Prescott on the news urging his audience to remember that the call for unity applies at all levels of the party – including, as Tony Blair had just reminded Mr Prescott, “him and I at the top” (my emphasis).

Bless him, he’s only a Northern lad and humble in origins – so perhaps we ought not to be too hard on him. But my teeth are itching now: bad grammar in high places makes me cringe!

(And, in defence of his speech writer, that error does not appear in the written version on the Labour party website. It is presumably an embellishment all of Mr Prescott’s own devising.)
